AA Helpline

One Alcoholic Helping Another

When A.A. members volunteer to staff the helpline, they carry forward the Fellowship’s core mission of “one alcoholic helping another” and embody the Twelfth Tradition by offering real support to those still suffering.

Trained volunteers—members with at least a year of sobriety—answer callers with empathy and experience, helping them find local meetings, understand what to expect at their first meeting, connect with sponsors, or simply receive a listening ear when they most need it. By sharing their own journey and guiding newcomers to the next right step, helpline volunteers provide hope, compassion, and a bridge to the recovery community.

Volunteering for answering help line calls or making yourself available to speak with callers seeking a more personal conversation with someone in recovery are great opportunities for service.

We are seeking answering shift volunteers who make themselves available for one or more three-hour shifts each week.  During this time, callers to the help line will be forwarded to your mobile phone with caller ID indicating it is a help line call.  Callers call to find out about AA, recovery and meeting information.

We are also seeking “12th Step Volunteers” who have completed the Twelve Steps with a sponsor and agree to be on our 12th Step Volunteer List.”  These volunteers make themselves available so that callers can ask to speak to someone with the same gender from their home town.  Volunteers indicate which towns they are most familiar with.  There are already multiple volunteers registered for each town in lower Fairfield County, but to maximize the chance that we can connect a caller, more volunteers are always needed,

If you are a sponsor seeking service ideas for your sponsees, consider having them sign up for an answering shift or to be a 12th Step Volunteer.  Contact us at phones@iafc-aa.org with any questions.

If you are interested in volunteering, complete the form below and we will connect with you to get you signed up.
